Glaseado Mountain: Grusha's Ice Gym, Snow Pokémon and The Indigo Disk Legendaries

1480 words | Reading time: 7 minutes

Glaseado Mountain is a snow-covered mountain in Paldea. You first climb it to challenge Grusha, the Ice-type Gym Leader, but its slopes hold much more: some fifty TMs, ruins, lakes, snow Pokémon and two Legendaries in store for players of The Indigo Disk.

Glaseado Mountain, Between the Sea and the Great Crater of Paldea

Glaseado Mountain belongs to Paldea, the region of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. Like the rest of the map, it can be explored freely, and its summit bears a telling name: a sign there announces Paldea's Highest Peak.

The area reaches well beyond the white slopes. It takes in the surroundings of Montenevera, the town where Ryme runs the Gym, with its lakes, spring and waterfall, but also the Watchtower, the cliffs of Glaseado's Grasp, the rocky path running along Tagtree Thicket and several groups of ruins, including the northern, southeastern and southwestern ones.

To the north, the mountain stretches all the way to the sea; to the south, it extends to the foot of the Great Crater of Paldea. Dalizapa Passage comes out here, with a Pokémon Center on the surface, and the area borders both North Province (Area Three) and West Province (Area Three).

Grusha and the Ice-Type Gym

The Glaseado Mountain Gym specializes in the Ice type. Its Gym Leader, Grusha, is one of the eight Gym Leaders featured in Victory Road, one of Paldea's three storylines: it's the one that brings the player up to these heights.

Paldea lets you choose the order of the Gyms, and the game takes that into account here. If the Glaseado Mountain Gym is the very first one you visit, Nemona waits for the player outside the entrance and slips them three Super Potions.

At the Gym's Pokémon Center, a Paldea League representative keeps track of the player's wins: he hands over a TM as soon as ten Trainers in the area have been defeated. As for the Gym Leader's portrait, you'll find it in Grusha's profile.

Trainers, TMs and Treasures on the Slopes

Twenty-seven Trainers dot the mountain, with teams from level 35 to level 42. Black Belts, Dragon Tamers, Couriers, Scientists and Students take turns here: Sebastian fields a Lucario, Anna a Dragonair and Elisabet an Altaria.

As for items, fifty-two different TMs are there to be picked up. Some have to be earned: one sits atop the great ice pillar east of the Gym, another waits at the top of the Watchtower. At the very top, near the Paldea's Highest Peak sign, a Brave Mint is waiting.

An Ice Stone is hidden at the edge of one of the cliffs of Glaseado's Grasp, and three Ice Tera Shards lie behind the Gym, among other batches of Tera Shards. In the snow, sparkling spots yield Icy Rock, Never-Melt Ice or Snowball, and the influencer O'Nare, whom you meet on the north face, gives out ten Big Nuggets.

The Pokémon of Glaseado Mountain, from the Snow to the Lakes

In the snow, the wildlife is built for the cold: Snover and Abomasnow, Glaceon, Froslass, Cubchoo and Beartic, Cryogonal, Avalugg, Crabominable or Frigibax. Cetoddle lives here alongside its evolution, Cetitan, and both Deerling and Sawsbuck sport their Winter Form.

Spiritomb and Gardevoir also appear on the snowy expanses. The other habitats extend the list: the caves are home to Arctibax and Glimmet, the ruins to Mimikyu, Tinkatink and Tinkatuff, and the lakes to Wooper in its Paldean form.

Finally, several encounters depend on the version, following the logic of version exclusives. Scarlet gets Drifloon, Drifblim, Larvitar and Deino; Violet has Misdreavus, Mismagius, Bagon, Dreepy and Drakloak.

Articuno and Glastrier: The Indigo Disk Legendaries

The Indigo Disk DLC adds two prestigious encounters, provided you first obtain the treats that trigger them. Snacksworth is the one who hands them out, at Blueberry Academy; each of the two Pokémon can then be encountered only once.

Articuno appears at level 70, near the lakes bordering Montenevera to the west. This member of the trio of legendary birds, an Ice- and Flying-type Pokémon, has the Pressure Ability and comes with Hurricane, Haze, Blizzard and Sheer Cold.

Glastrier, also at level 70, stands south of the Gym, not far from a small group of ruins. An Ice type, it has the Chilling Neigh Ability and knows Iron Defense, Thrash, Taunt and Double-Edge.

❄️ Has Articuno given you a taste for big names? They're waiting for you in our Legendary Pokémon collection.

Glaseado Mountain in the Anime

The mountain is the setting for the first episode of Pokémon: Paldean Winds. Ohara officially goes there for her treasure hunt, but her real plan is to get rid of her flute. Yet the instrument comes back into play when a Cetitan goes after a Trainer: the sound of the flute is enough to calm the Terra Whale Pokémon.

It appears again in Pokémon Horizons: The Series, in episode HZ060, which belongs to the second season, The Search for Laqua.
