A Psychic-Type Gym That Starts With a Workout
The Alfornada Gym is the Psychic-type Gym, and Tulip runs it from start to finish. Trainers who beat her leave with the Psychic Badge and TM120 Psychic, the standard reward for a Gym victory in Paldea.
Before the battle, you have to pass her Gym Test, and this one is unlike any other: the Emotional Spectrum Practice, a workout routine of her own design, aims to bring out the beauty that challengers keep inside. When she has no classes to teach, it's Dendra who leads the sessions on Tulip's behalf. The challenge only opens up to those who see it through to the end.
If you rank the Gyms by the level of their teams rather than by the map, Tulip comes in seventh — the same rank held by Olympia and the duo Tate & Liza in their respective regions. In other words, a late-game Gym, best tackled with a team that's already well seasoned.
The Bewitching Beautician: A Career Before a Title
Her nickname sums up her double career: she's known as the "Bewitching Beautician", because she works as a model and runs the makeup brand she created. For her, beauty isn't a piece of character decoration but her constant subject: her face appears on countless advertisements in the streets of Levincia.
The first meeting shows this clearly. The player finds her on her battle court, flanked by two Medicham and glued to her Rotom Phone, sorting out a matter of new eyeshadow shades — the protagonist will have to wait. Once the call is over, she introduces herself, notices that the player is radiant and keeps their Pokémon looking their best, then announces that she'll put her talent into making them even more dazzling.
This standard for appearance extends into a standard for results: Tulip seeks perfection in battle too, which puts her among the toughest Gym Leaders in the region. The scene after her defeat is in the same vein — she agrees to the selfie, then asks that it not be shared on social media, since her makeup has run from the effort.

Dendra and Geeta: Two Ties That Place Her Within the League
Dendra is a childhood friend, but the friendship comes with rules: after losing a battle to Tulip, she regularly has to do what Tulip says. That's why you find her leading the Emotional Spectrum Practice between classes at the Academy.
With Geeta, the tone changes. Tulip doesn't care for the Top Champion, whose aura, in her view, overshadows her own — a dispute over precedence more than method. During the Gym inspection, she doesn't hide her pleasure at seeing the player come instead of Geeta, and brings up this complicated relationship of her own accord.
Then there's her permanent escort: the two Medicham she's rarely seen without seem to manage her comings and goings. This isn't a battle team but an entourage, fitting for a character who moves around like a public figure rather than a lone Trainer.
Her Theory of Talent, Laid Out After the Rematch
Beaten a second time, during the Gym inspection, Tulip delivers the harshest lines ever written for her. According to her, those without talent don't last: running up against difficulties leads to despair, and then to a wasted life.
She pushes the reasoning to its least comfortable conclusion: having no gift at all would be better than having an insufficient one. Then she wishes the player a way out of that fate, makes them promise to keep nurturing their own gift, thanks them and slips away.
Beyond the Games: Anime, Cards and Design
In the Pokémon Horizons series, it's Tulip who certifies Sidian's aptitude for Tera Training. She travels all the way to Naranja Academy and battles alongside Sidian against Rika, her Espathra backing up her partner's Garganacl — which goes down very quickly.
The exchange that follows is worth more than the battle. She checks that he understood that having a Pokémon knocked out costs him the match; Rika criticizes him for giving up too quickly; Sidian retorts that he refuses to burn through those who support him just to stay on his feet a little longer. Tulip approves, believing that everyone has the right to stick to their own idea of beauty — the only moral you could have expected from her.
A presentation video hosted by the streamer Iono catches her touching up her makeup in her dressing room, her Espathra sitting beside her. On the card side, her debut in the Trading Card Game dates back to November 2023, with the Scarlet & Violet—Paradox Rift expansion. Finally, her design is the work of Megumi Mizutani, who is also credited for Katy, Brassius and Iono.

In short
No Psychic-type Gym Leader before her had been without personal psychic powers: her strength doesn't come from a supernatural gift but from work on her image pushed to the point of obsession. Her Gym makes you sweat before you battle, her rematch ends with a chilling sermon on talent, and her entourage feels as much like a film crew as a Trainer's team. Few Gym Leaders match their profession and their battle style so closely.
