Raifort: The History Teacher Who Ditches Class for Ruins
Share
1322 words | Reading time: 6 minutes
She abandons her own class the moment a lead turns up. Raifort teaches History at Paldea's oldest academy, the one that serves as the backdrop for the entire ninth generation. The game makes her less a teacher than a field researcher: regional legends, the stakes driven into the landscape and the depths of Area Zero interest her far more than faculty meetings.

History on the Curriculum at Paldea's Oldest School
The school where Raifort works has two names depending on the version: Naranja Academy in Scarlet, Uva Academy in Violet. It stands in Mesagoza and presents itself as the oldest school in the region — a setting that hands a History class a ready-made subject: the region itself.
Her way of teaching follows a precise reading order. Every topic starts in Paldea's past and works its way up to the students' own era, so the curriculum tells a continuous story rather than a collection of dates.
The game paints her as fearless, meticulous to the point of obsession and completely consumed by her passions. She can spend an entire night poring over history books, rarely shows up to faculty meetings, and has no fondness for anything new or for technology.
Treasures of Ruin, Stakes and Area Zero: The Adventurous Side
Paldea's legends are her favorite territory, and among them the treasures of ruin, four Legendary Pokémon the region has kept under seal. She's the one who explains to the player that the stakes scattered across the map have to be pulled to set them free — an instruction that turns scenery into a game mechanic.
Her personal ambition aims even lower, quite literally: she wants to be the first to reach the bottom of Area Zero. The wording says a lot about the character, who doesn't just want to know but to have been there before everyone else.
Invited by the player to Blueberry Academy, she doesn't limit herself to the reason for the trip. Once there, she makes the most of her stay in Unova to go explore the Abyssal Ruins together with her Lumineon.
In Pokémon Horizons: The Library, Then the Field
Her first anime appearance comes through an assignment from the academy's director: Clavell asks her to host the Rising Volt Tacklers, who have come with questions about Terapagos. The meeting takes place in the Academy library, where she introduces them to her Zoroark, which loves changing its appearance.
She immediately suggests moving the discussion to where she had planned to work, outdoors. When the group admits they're investigating Lucius, the Six Heroes and Laqua, the teacher gets fired up instead of putting on the brakes: the mystery puts her in the same state as her students.
The session turns into a dig. Her Zoroark spots the Roaming Form Gimmighoul she had come to observe, Roy picks up a Gimmighoul Coin left on the ground, and the group search leads them to the remains of old buildings. Raifort dates them to ancient Paldea and turns them into a lesson: understanding the past means understanding the way we live today.
She then shares what a very old book taught her about Laqua: a place a hundred days and a hundred nights away, all in shades of pink, which she believes they're capable of reaching. Later, she points the three students toward Kitakami and toward Briar, the Terapagos specialist, once they've completed their Terastal course. Another anime series also shows her, in the Academy's introduction video, absorbed in a book with her Gengar beside her.

A Mari Shimazaki Design, With Legendary Jewelry
Raifort's look is the work of Mari Shimazaki, who also designed Miriam. Her outfit is dotted with references to Legendary and Mythical Pokémon: a belt buckle bearing Lunala's likeness, an Articuno-shaped pendant, a bracelet modeled on Tapu Koko's shell, and a hairpin with a Marshadow motif.
The mobile game recruited her on June 14, 2026, in this default outfit and paired with Gengar, which can Terastallize into the Ghost type there. Her profile there sums up the character in a single sentence: an affinity for everything old, paired with an allergy to everything new.
The trading card game welcomed her a little earlier. Her first card came out in the Scarlet & Violet—Twilight Masquerade expansion, released in France on May 24, 2024.

In short
Raifort holds a rare place among the Academy's staff: her subject is also what drives the plot. The stakes, the treasures of ruin, the remains of ancient Paldea and the depths of Area Zero all fall within her field, and the anime extends exactly that role by making her the group's source on Laqua. A teacher whose best lesson happens outside the classroom.
