The nurse's office of Paldea's oldest academy
The school where Miriam works is presented as the oldest academy in the region, located in Mesagoza. Its name changes with the version: Naranja Academy in Scarlet, Uva Academy in Violet.
The students call her "Mimi." The game describes her as a very kind person, and that nickname says a lot about her place in the school: an adult you can walk up to without an appointment.
Her backstory doesn't come from her own mouth but from a friend's: Model Naiara says she once worked at a Pokémon Center. So the information comes as hearsay, slipped into a side conversation, the way the series usually drip-feeds the past of its supporting characters.

A teaching exam failed, then passed
Miriam isn't content with her nurse's office: she wants a subject of her own. The curriculum she dreams of fits in one word, health, in everything it covers — and the teaching exam has beaten her on several attempts.
The breakthrough comes from the player. After they take the time to listen to her stories, she retakes the exam and finally passes: her promotion is unlocked through a series of optional conversations, not a victory.
The reward is immediately put off. No slot opens up among her colleagues, so she'll have to wait until the next school year to get a class of her own: the game gives her the title but withholds the job.
With no classes to teach, her days stay empty and she gets bored. By her own admission, most of the people who walk through her door are faking being unwell; the exception is Dendra, the Battle Studies teacher, whose repeated injuries often bring her back to the nurse's office.
Special Coach at Blueberry Academy
The Indigo Disk expansion gives her a second life. Three interactions are enough to bring her to Blueberry Academy as a Special Coach, alongside the other outside guests.
Once there, she stops being part of the scenery: she's up for a chat as well as a friendly battle, and a new reaction unlocks as soon as you beat her for the first time.
After a few visits, she offers a no-strings trade: she gives you a Mareanie with a Partner Ribbon and accepts any creature of your choice in return. Nothing is required of the Pokémon you offer, which makes the trade available as soon as you arrive.
A team modeled on alternative medicine
Her team isn't built around a type but around an idea. Several of the species that accompany her point to alternative medicine — cryotherapy, hypnosis, acupuncture — and carry her profession over into her choices as a Trainer.
The mobile game Pokémon Masters EX recruited her on November 8, 2025. She wears her canonical outfit there and teams up with Toxapex as a sync pair.
The profile that comes with her is telling: it describes a newly certified teacher, fresh out of the nurse's office of a Paldean school, with the stint at a Pokémon Center still mentioned as a rumor. That text therefore places her after the end of her arc in the main game.

Animation, cards and a character designer's signature
On screen, her role lasts just a few seconds. She can be glimpsed among the staff in the video that gives a tour of Naranja Academy, where she takes care of a student who came in with their Pokémon.
The card game made room for her as early as the Scarlet & Violet expansion, released in France on March 31, 2023. That's her first appearance on a card.
Her look is the work of Mari Shimazaki, who also designed Raifort. So two members of the academy staff share the same designer.

In short
Miriam is a background character whom the game gives a complete arc: you find her behind a desk no one visits, and you leave her certified but without a class. Her arc unlocks not through battle but through listening, and what comes next plays out elsewhere — at Blueberry Academy, then in a mobile game that finally presents her as a teacher. A promotion earned by talking, which is still rare in the series.
