Arezu: The Warden Too Conscientious to Ask for Help

1549 words | Reading time: 7 minutes

Arezu raises the alarm about another warden's Pokémon, and says nothing about her own. A warden of the Diamond Clan, she watches over Hisuian Lilligant, and the game describes her as so serious that she can't bring herself to share a problem. It all comes down to one scene: a warden reported missing, found in a marsh with a sprained ankle, while the Pokémon in her care has gone into a frenzy. Her whole arc is a journey from stubborn self-reliance to owning up.

A Duty Given by the People, a Noble to Feed

In Hisui, you can't simply appoint yourself a warden: the role is bestowed by the people themselves, and Arezu's ties her to the Diamond Clan. While still very young, she is entrusted with one of the region's Noble Pokémon, Lilligant in its Hisuian form.

The post is anything but honorary. It covers protecting the Pokémon, guarding its territory and keeping it supplied with food: as much caretaking as bodyguard duty, which means knowing her charge's favorite foods by heart. That detail will end up deciding the outcome of the story of Pokémon Legends: Arceus.

The game takes her seriousness so far that it becomes a flaw. Arezu overdoes everything and would rather sort out whatever lands on her plate by herself; she also has boundless admiration for the Galaxy Team, which she describes as a gathering of geniuses.

In Jubilife Village, Raising the Alarm for Another Warden's Pokémon

Her first meeting with the player takes place in Jubilife Village, where she has just stopped dead in front of a hair salon that fascinates her. The detail seems trivial: it actually foreshadows the character's epilogue. She then rushes off to the Galaxy Hall.

What she has come to tell Kamado has nothing to do with her own charge: Ursaluna has gone out of control, and its warden, Calaba, flatly refuses any outside help. The obstacle is a human one before it's a practical one, and it takes someone from the rival clan to report it.

That information is enough to set a mission in motion. The player sets off to quell Ursaluna in the Crimson Mirelands while Arezu stays behind, wandering the streets of Jubilife Village: a calm on the surface only, since no one yet knows what is unfolding on her end.

Frenzied and Missing: What Arezu Hadn't Told Anyone

Coming back from the Mirelands brings two pieces of news at once. Adaman tells the player that Lilligant has now gone into a frenzy too, and its warden has vanished. It's the keen nose of Ursaluna, newly calmed, that tracks her down.

She is found stranded: she sprained her ankle while fleeing a wild Pokémon. Calaba turns up at that very moment and apologizes to her for brushing off her help — in a single line, the blame changes sides.

Arezu then provides the missing piece. Ursaluna had lost its head after breathing in the scent of an already frenzied Lilligant; knowing the chaos had started with her own charge, she wanted to undo the damage, and that is why she had gone knocking on the Galaxy Team's door. She had even learned to make balms from her noble's favorite foods.

Brava Arena, Then a Hair Salon

From there, the action splits across two fronts. Adaman, once he grasps the situation, teams up with the player to go calm Lilligant, while Calaba stays behind to treat the injured ankle.

The two women make their way to Brava Arena just before the battle. They tell the player how to weaken the noble: the sidelined warden takes no part in the fight, but she passes on what only she knows about her Pokémon.

Once Lilligant is calmed, Arezu thanks the player, then apologizes to her own charge for failing to protect her. She then settles in Jubilife Village, where Edith hires her at her hair salon: the shop front that dazzled her in the first chapter becomes her job.

Beyond the Story: A Card, a Sync Pair and a Touch of Mars

The Trading Card Game welcomed her as early as 2022. Her first card appeared in the Sword & Shield—Lost Origin expansion, released on September 9, 2022 in France, and other illustrations have featured her since.

The mobile game added her on September 30, 2025, in two different outfits. Her canonical outfit pairs her with Hisuian Lilligant and presents her as the warden of the Lady of the Ridge, currently studying hairdressing: the continuity with the main game's epilogue is spot on.

The second, called "Summer 2026," is a summer outfit coordinated with Basculegion to strengthen the bond between the Trainer and her partner. Its description looks back on her Pokémon's rage and on the episode that forced her to take a hard look at herself.

One resemblance is impossible to miss. Mars, a major antagonist in Diamond, Pearl and Platinum and later in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, looks remarkably like her: same look, similar names, a Purugly and a Bronzong on both sides, and the same planet in their etymology. Yet no link between the two characters has ever been officially confirmed.

In short

Arezu doesn't battle once during the main story, and only faces the player afterward, at the Jubilife Village training grounds: her role is to admit a mistake and go looking for help. She raises the alarm for another warden's Pokémon, keeps quiet about her own, gets hurt trying to carry everything herself, and ends up apologizing to the Pokémon that had been entrusted to her. Hisui's most conscientious warden is also the one who learns fastest to stop working alone.
