Pesselle: Healing Hisui with Poison and 100 Medicinal Leeks

In Hisui, getting medical care is anything but a formality. In Pokémon Legends: Arceus, medicine depends on one Galaxy Team department, on handmade remedies and on a captain who is forever chasing after her supplies. Pesselle runs the Medical Corps, and her daily routine boils down to two side requests that say everything about how people get back on their feet in this region.

The Medical Corps, the Village's Only Medicine
The Galaxy Team doesn't operate as a single block: it's divided into specialized corps, each with its own field and its own chain of command. The one that tends to the injured is called the Medical Corps, and Pesselle leads it — a subdivision whose remit fits in a single sentence: taking care of the people the region has hurt.
The player hears her before even seeing her, busy with a villager who has been knocked down by wild Pokémon. The injured man explains that he sent his partner into battle but couldn't hold off their numbers. Pesselle first scolds him for venturing so far afield, then promises that her corps will put him to rights: scolding and comfort in the same line.
Around her, the expedition's org chart is easy to read. The player, for their part, reports to the Survey Corps, led by Cyllene; Sanqua runs the Construction Corps; Kamado oversees the entire organization established in Hisui. Pesselle holds the role nobody thinks about until they get hurt.
"Croagunk's Curative Poison": A Croagunk from the Crimson Mirelands
The first side request she hands out starts from a very concrete case: Buck is bedridden with back pain, and she wants to give him a remedy she knows how to make. All she's missing is the main ingredient, poison — that of a Croagunk, diluted before it's administered.
The recipe isn't her own invention, and she makes no secret of it: a member of the Diamond Clan described the process to her. The detail is worth more than a quest anecdote, since it shows official medicine drawing on the clans' knowledge rather than keeping it at arm's length.
The player heads off to the Crimson Mirelands, brings the creature back, and a few drops settle the matter: Buck is up and about again and goes back to chopping wood. The Croagunk, however, doesn't leave: it stays by her side once the request is closed, with no other job than being friendly — which she points out herself, without seeing any problem in it.

A Hundred Medicinal Leeks, and a Shortage in Retreat
The second request, "Pesselle's Easy Errand," comes down to a single number: a hundred Medicinal Leeks to gather and bring back to her. The number reveals the real state of her stocks, since she explains that she often runs short of raw materials, with injured people turning up every day.
The player may be surprised by the quantity, but she brushes the objection aside with a botanical argument: the plant grows practically everywhere in the region, so much so that it's nicknamed the wayfarer's friend. The resource isn't rare; what an overstretched corps lacks is the time to pick it.
Her conclusion splits the population in two. Trainers who can craft their own medicines get along fine without her; everyone else needs a stock built up in advance. And she notes that the number of injured is going down as research on Pokémon progresses, a result she credits to the Survey Corps rather than to herself.
A Shared Place of Healing, and Sleepless Nights
The poison remedy inspires a project she voices out loud: an aid facility where humans and Pokémon would work side by side, for the benefit of both. She sets the condition for it herself — they first need to learn a lot more about Pokémon, which in her eyes justifies the very existence of the Survey Corps.
In the meantime, she focuses on prevention. After an attack, she recommends falling back to the nearest base camp; above all, she reminds trainers of something they tend to forget. Being in top shape won't protect you if the team traveling with you isn't: a traveler's safety is measured by the condition of their Pokémon.
That doesn't make her a serene character, though. Worry keeps her awake, and the Hisuian sky won't even let her tell day from night; she wishes the base camps built by the corps next door had roofs. That doesn't stop her, in front of a camera, from offering to take a hundred or so photos with the player — the same taste for big numbers as with the Medicinal Leeks.
Hygieia, a Sense of Déjà Vu, and an Anime Cameo
Her French name wasn't picked at random: Hygia refers to Hygieia, the Greek goddess of health and hygiene. Other languages move well away from that root, with Pesselle in English, Almira in Spanish, Tella in Italian, 杵兒 in Chinese, and Kine, which German shares with the Japanese キネ.
Her face, on the other hand, got people talking. Pesselle looks a lot like Mira, and even more like the series' Pokémon Center nurses — so much so that the connection jumps out at anyone who meets her. Yet no kinship has ever been officially confirmed, and the game offers nothing to back up the theory.
Outside the game, she's little more than a silhouette. A short animated episode titled "Two Hues" gives her a cameo, in which she's seen tending to injured Pokémon alongside Alec, the protagonist. The gesture is the same as in the poison request, except that this time it's the Pokémon themselves being treated.

In short
Pesselle has no Gym to defend and no team to field, and that's exactly what makes her easy to read: she gauges the state of a region by the number of injured people who come through her door. Her two requests tell the same story of dependence — a remedy hinges on a Pokémon you have to go and find, a stock hinges on plants you have to go and pick. Her only stated ambition, a place where people would heal with Pokémon rather than in spite of them, puts her well ahead of her time.
