Kalos's Third Gym, Fighting-Type Specialist
Korrina runs the Shalour City Gym and awards the Rumble Badge. Her position, third along the way, makes her one of the first real walls of X and Y.
Her Gym team comes down to three Pokémon: Mienfoo, Machoke and Hawlucha. Elsewhere, she fields Machamp at the Battle Chateau, then Medicham, Gallade, Crabominable and Chesnaught in the Infinite Z-A Royale of Pokémon Legends: Z-A. No frills, one specialty held from start to finish.
The game presents her as a girl bursting with energy, so gifted on roller skates that she's said to be able to split a boulder with a kick of her heel. She is also a Marchioness of the Battle Chateau.
The Descendant of the First Mega Evolution Trainer
Her importance goes far beyond her rank. Korrina descends from the very first Trainer ever to Mega Evolve their Lucario, and as such knows some of the secrets of Mega Evolution.
That's why she is the one who takes the player under her wing on this specific subject. The generation's central mechanic is entrusted to her, rather than to the Professor or the League Champion.
Her Lucario is therefore more than a signature Pokémon: it's a family legacy, and living proof of what Mega Evolution makes possible.

What She Changes in the Player's Journey
Putting this lesson at the third Gym is no accident. The player gets the mechanic early enough to make something of it, but late enough to have already found their footing.
The contrast with the other Gym Leaders of Kalos is stark: most of them are content to run their Gym, she carries a piece of the story.
Her specialty also complements this role. The Fighting type is the one that benefits most from Mega Evolution's raw stat boosts, and her Lucario is the clearest example of it in the whole game.
