Gwynn: The Ghost Specialist Cleaning Up After Her Brother
Share
1291 words | Reading time: 6 minutes
If she takes part in the Infinite Z-A Royale, it's for a reason she fully owns: the tournament is played at night. Gwynn belongs to the Fist of Justice, the dojo run by her big brother Ivor, and she battles with Ghost-type Pokémon. As quiet as her brother is loud, she spends a good part of the story fixing his messes — before disappearing without a word to anyone.

A place in the Fist of Justice, inherited through her brother
Gwynn comes from the Kalos region, and she didn't join the Fist of Justice out of any sense of calling: she is part of it because she is the little sister of Ivor, who runs the Justice Dojo. Her membership comes from family ties, not from recruitment.
In practice, she mostly handles the logistics. She's the one who operates the Z-A Royale app in her brother's place, since he can't keep a Rotom Phone in one piece. She is also regularly summoned to the city hall of Lumiose City, where the neighbors' complaints about the dojo's racket keep piling up.
The contrast in personality is head-on: where Ivor fills every inch of space, Gwynn stays in the background — calm, reserved, rather solitary, putting up with the chores without ever arguing. Her brother's racket is still the one point on which she won't give an inch.
Canari, between idolization and friendship
Her declared passion is Canari, whom she has followed since the very beginning. She claims her status as a day-one fan like a title, and can't stand anyone claiming in front of her to know Canari better than she does.
The relationship doesn't stop at admiration from afar: the two have become close and often meet up, in cafés or over video games. For such a solitary character, it's the only bond the story gives her outside her family.
That's also how the player first gets to her. A Canari Quiz Whiz Contest hosted by Canari serves as the way in: you take part to earn a promotion match against Canari. Gwynn gets through the first round with no trouble, before falling in the second.
A Ghost-type specialist, and a Chandelure from the sewers
Gwynn introduces herself as a specialist in Ghost-type Pokémon, and the story treats her as an accomplished Trainer rather than an extra. It's the only specialty she's known for, and she never strays from it.
Her partner is a Chandelure. She met it when it was still just a Litwick, on a day she had gotten lost in the sewers — an encounter owed entirely to chance and not at all to a Trainer's strategy.
A rare touch for a secondary character, the game even specifies her gear: she keeps her team in Nest Balls. It's the kind of detail that stands in for characterization in figures you only face a handful of times.

The disappearance that stalls the climb through the ranks
You first glimpse her from afar, at a Fist of Justice gathering near Wild Zone 3. Her real entrance into the plot waits until the player reaches Rank E, when Ivor becomes the opponent to beat for the next promotion match.
At the Justice Dojo, the battle doesn't happen: the Fighting-type specialist is found in a panic, because his sister has disappeared. The player agrees to go looking for her, and it's Emma who helps pick up her trail.
Gwynn is found in the Lumiose Sewers, and only agrees to explain herself once the battle has been fought. Beaten, she admits she hid out of sheer weariness: ever since her brother signed up for the Z-A Royale, he no longer pays attention to anything, and she's the one cleaning up the damage.
After the story: night matches and a first card
The Infinite Z-A Royale brings her back into play: she is the opponent in the sixth match, then joins the pool of possible opponents from the twenty-first onward. She goes from a scripted encounter to a recurring face, without anything changing in her specialty.
She gives her motivation herself: she takes part because the tournament takes place at night. The reason seems trivial, but it fits the character — a Ghost-type Trainer who prefers the hours when nobody asks anything of her.
Outside the games, her move to the card game is very recent. She makes her first appearance in the Mega Evolution—Pitch Black expansion, released in France on July 17, 2026 — a fitting expansion name for a specialist in Ghosts and nighttime battles.

In short
Gwynn holds a place in the Fist of Justice that she didn't choose: that of the sister who cleans up after her brother. Yet the game makes her more than a sidekick — a Ghost-type specialist who insists on being beaten before she agrees to talk, and whose escape is enough to halt the player's progress. Her disappearance remains the only moment in the story when she stops taking it all in silence.
