Hearthome City is the big city of eastern Sinnoh. Beyond Fantina's Gym, it brings together everything that keeps the region alive outside of battle: Sinnoh's only Contest Hall, the Poffin House, a square where you can stroll with your Pokémon and a cathedral unlike anything else in the series.

A metropolis east of Mount Coronet
Hearthome City lies east of Mount Coronet in Sinnoh, where it is the largest city on that side of the mountain. You pass through it in Diamond and Pearl, in Platinum and in their remakes.
The city links three directions: Route 208, to the west, leads back to Oreburgh City through Mount Coronet; Route 209, to the east, leads to Solaceon Town; and Route 212, to the south, runs down to Pastoria City and its famous Great Marsh.

Fantina's Ghost-type Gym
Hearthome City's Gym specializes in the Ghost type. Its Gym Leader, Fantina, rewards those who beat her with the Relic Badge and TM65, which holds Shadow Claw.
Its place in the adventure depends on the version. In Diamond and Pearl, Fantina introduces herself in front of the Contest Hall as soon as the player arrives, but her Gym only opens after your victories in Veilstone City and Pastoria City: that makes it the fifth badge, the one that unlocks Surf outside of battle. Platinum, on the other hand, makes it the third.

The city of Contests
Hearthome City is the city of Pokémon Contests in Sinnoh: the region's only Contest Hall stands in the north of the city. Right next to the Poké Mart, on the west side, the Poffin House lets Coordinators cook the Poffins that show their Pokémon at their best.
Sinnoh's Pokémon Fan Club has also set up its headquarters here, east of the Mart: the meeting point for collectors and fans from across the region.

Amity Square and the Cathedral
Amity Square offers a pleasure that was rare in the games of that era: strolling alongside one of your Pokémon, out of its Poké Ball, in the middle of a garden.
Hearthome City's Cathedral, just a "Strange Building" in the original games, is the first clearly religious building in the series. The French version presents it as the emblem of a cosmopolitan city, and the fresco on its central wall evokes a rift in space-time opening above Mount Coronet.

Bebe, Mr. Goods and a Happiny Egg
Hearthome City is also home to Bebe, the PC Box administrator, who lives next to the Pokémon Center. She gives an Eevee to the player: on your very first visit in Platinum, but only after the National Pokédex in Diamond and Pearl.
Other residents have surprises in store: Mr. Goods, whom you'll find just south of the Pokémon Center, hands out trophies for your Secret Base in the Underground, and in Diamond and Pearl, a Hiker stationed near Route 209 entrusts you with an Egg that hatches into a Happiny.
Hearthome City in the anime
In season 10, a tag battle tournament is held in town, and Ash and his friends take part in it, in episodes DP050 to DP052. In season 11, a Toxicroak joins the city's big parade (DP086), and Ash returns in episodes DP101 and DP102 to try his luck against Fantina again.
The Trading Card Game pays tribute to it: Hearthome City's Contest Hall has its own card, released in the Platinum—Rising Rivals expansion, which came out in France on November 6, 2009.
