Evelyn: The Chatelaine Who Guards the Super Double Battle
Share
1185 words | Reading time: 5 minutes
You have to beat Evelyn before the real challenge begins. One of the four Battle Chatelaines who take turns at the Battle Maison, she handles the Double format and only appears at the end of a long winning streak. The mobile game describes her as reserved and shy; the Battle Maison nonetheless places her at the end of both its Double lines, at the twentieth and fiftieth consecutive battles.

One Chatelaine among four sisters
Evelyn doesn't run the Battle Maison on her own. The facility is entrusted to four sisters — Nita, Dana, Morgan and herself — who take turns there, each tied to a battle format. Poképédia lists Evelyn and Dana as the younger sisters of the family.
As for her specialty, the mobile game's description names it outright: she is in charge of Double Battles. The same text introduces her as the third-born Battle Chatelaine, rather reserved and shy, yet extremely talented — the profile of a discreet guardian more than a facility boss.
Her localized names all revolve around evening. The Japanese ルスワール reads Rusuwāru and translates as Lesoir, German calls her simply Soir, French Vesper, Spanish Vésper, Italian Vespera and Chinese 夕絲; only English breaks from the pack with an everyday first name, Evelyn.

The wall at battle twenty
The Battle Maison is the same in Pokémon X and Y and in Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. So Evelyn's Pokémon don't change from one version to the other: what a player learns about her in one still holds in the other, which is far from a given between two generations.
The facility works in streaks of consecutive battles, and the Chatelaine stands on the last step of the Double Battle line. She is the opponent in the twentieth battle in a row: nineteen wins get you nothing; it's the twentieth that counts, and it's hers.
Beating her doesn't close the facility; it opens it up. Super Double Battles stay locked until you've beaten her at least once in Double Battles, and they put her in your way again at the fiftieth consecutive battle. You can also run into her in Multi Battles, solo or with a friend.
An assigned partner, a randomly drawn team
In Multi Battles, Evelyn doesn't face the player alone. She teams up with Morgan when you take on the challenge with a friend, and with Dana when you play it against the computer: it's the mode you choose, not chance, that decides her teammate.
Chance, on the other hand, shapes her Pokémon. In Multi Battles, her two Pokémon are picked at random from the ones she normally uses on her own, whereas her Double Battle and Super Double Battle teams are fixed: Primeape, Persian, Pachirisu and Lumineon on one side, Raikou, Entei, Suicune and Latios on the other.
That's exactly what sets a battle facility apart from a Gym. You don't build a counter there; you build a team that can absorb several combinations — the same demand you face with Emmet, who runs the Double format of Unova's Battle Subway, or with Dahlia at the Battle Arcade.
Beyond the Maison: the mobile game and the cards
Evelyn left her facility on July 28, 2021, when she joined the mobile game. She arrives in her canonical outfit, the one from the Battle Maison, with no alternate costume to go with it.
The partner she's paired with is Entei. The sync pair doesn't come along during the story: it's exchanged for a BP Sync Pair Super Voucher, a currency you have to stockpile first — a means of access that puts her among the recruits you aim for rather than stumble upon.
The card game had welcomed her even earlier. Her first card appeared in the Sun & Moon—Team Up expansion, released in France on February 1, 2019 — an expansion whose name echoes the very format she defends at the Battle Maison.

In short
Evelyn holds a very specific place in how the Battle Maison works: she's the door you have to force open to reach the long version of the Double format. The game gives her no big scripted scene — just the role of a lock, two fixed teams to pick apart, a teammate that depends on the game mode, and a reputation for quiet talent. Low-key on paper, unavoidable in the progression.
