Sabi: the warden who makes you play before the temple opens

1477 words | Reading time: 7 minutes

Before you get anything out of Sabi, you have to agree to play with her. This child of the Diamond Clan is one of Hisui's Wardens, tasked with watching over a special Pokémon, and she claims she can read the future. Beneath the clowning around, though, lies a key piece of the adventure: she's the one who opens the way to Snowpoint Temple and to the ride that unlocks the region's skies.

A Warden Chosen by the People, with a Pokémon to Feed

In Hisui, the title of Warden isn't inherited, it's entrusted. Sabi is one of those the people chose to look after a special Pokémon, and hers is Braviary in its Hisuian form. She belongs to the Diamond Clan.

The job is more down-to-earth than the word "Warden" suggests. She's responsible for the safety of the Pokémon and its territory, but also for its food and supplies: a stewardship role as much as a protective one, carried out on the region's snowy heights.

Still, the person holding the post is a little girl. Sabi loves to play and claims she can predict the future, two traits that color every one of her appearances in Pokémon Legends: Arceus and make it hard to take her entirely seriously.

Sabi and her Braviary
In Hisui, the title of Warden isn't inherited: it's entrusted.

Avalugg's Legacy: Help Granted in Advance, but Put Off

The first meeting takes place at Avalugg's Legacy, and the Warden is one step ahead of the protagonist there. She already knows they've come looking for Braviary's help, without them having to ask — the first display of the clairvoyance she claims to have.

She doesn't refuse, she stalls. Before helping anyone, she demands a game of tag, and the hero's investigation is put on hold for a children's game.

What comes next is a race. The player catches up with her on a mountaintop in the Bonechill Wastes, but she immediately flies off with Braviary toward Snowpoint Temple and leaves the player to get there on their own. Once up there, she finally lets them cross the threshold.

The Temple, Two Battles in a Row and the Celestica Flute

Getting in doesn't settle everything. Inside the temple, you have to solve puzzles to make progress, and getting out has to be earned too: before letting the protagonist leave, the Warden challenges them to a battle.

Once outside, she keeps going. Sabi offers to measure Braviary's strength by battling it directly, turning the Pokémon in her care into a sparring opponent.

The ritual that follows the Pokémon's defeat is what the whole sequence is really about. The player plays the Celestica Flute with her so that Braviary commits the melody to memory, and from then on the bird becomes a ride the player can call at will. Later, when the region's Noble Avalugg is quelled in turn, she claims to have watched the battle from the sky and comes to congratulate the winner.

Snowpoint Temple's Plate and a Newfound Calling

The temple comes back later in the story, in the main mission devoted to its plate. Sabi is waiting there for the player and notes that the door won't open, and her supposed gift of foresight doesn't whisper the solution to her.

The lock gives way to a specific combination. Together, the Stone, Icicle and Iron Plates open the way, and the Warden discovers Regigigas — a stone statue that she eventually recognizes as a Pokémon.

The episode changes her. Once the colossus is caught, she grows curious about the work of the Galaxy Team's Survey Corps and looks forward to reading the Pokédex entry on her discovery. Then she takes her leave, hoping to play with the protagonist again someday.

Beyond the Adventure: a Team, a Sync Pair, a Photo and a Family Resemblance

The mobile game added her on June 16, 2026, in her canonical Hisuian outfit, and there she battles as a sync pair with Rhyperior. In Pokémon Legends: Arceus, she already fields three Pokémon of her own — Rhyperior, Magmortar and Electivire — first at Snowpoint Temple, then at higher levels at the Training Grounds in Jubilife Village; Braviary, on the other hand, remains a Pokémon entrusted to her care, never a Trainer's partner.

Her introduction in that game says more about her personality than about her battles. It describes her as the keeper of a Braviary unlike any other, with a childlike carefreeness that's hard to pin down — a portrait that matches the impression left by the main adventure exactly.

Two details round out the picture. Hisui's photographer agrees to take her picture alongside the Braviary in her care, and her looks closely resemble Cheryl's, though no link between the two characters has ever been made official.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Who is Sabi in Pokémon Legends: Arceus?
She's a Warden of the Diamond Clan, from Hisui. The people chose her to watch over a special Pokémon: she protects Hisuian Braviary and its territory, and also takes care of its food supply.
  • Why won't Sabi help the hero right away?
Because she wants to play first. As soon as you meet her at Avalugg's Legacy, she guesses that the protagonist needs Braviary, but she insists on a game of tag before considering anything else.
  • How does Braviary become a ride?
After Snowpoint Temple, Sabi offers to test the strength of the Pokémon in her care in battle. Once Braviary is defeated, the player plays the Celestica Flute with her so the Pokémon remembers the melody: from then on, the player can call it as a ride.
  • What role does Sabi play in the discovery of Regigigas?
She's there for the Snowpoint Temple plate mission and notes that the door stays shut. When the Stone, Icicle and Iron Plates finally open it, she sees Regigigas and realizes that the stone figure is a Pokémon.
  • Which Pokémon does Sabi use?
In Pokémon Legends: Arceus, she battles with Rhyperior, Magmortar and Electivire, at Snowpoint Temple and then at the Training Grounds in Jubilife Village; she has also been paired with Rhyperior as a sync pair in the mobile game since June 2026. Hisuian Braviary isn't her Pokémon: it's the ride Pokémon in her care, and the player is even invited to battle it.

In short

Sabi plays a role that few characters take on so openly: the obstacle disguised as a game. She knows what the hero wants before they say it, she holds the access they're looking for, and she makes them earn it through a game of tag, a race to Snowpoint Temple, puzzles and then two battles. The reward for this obstacle course is one of the most useful gifts in the game, a Braviary you can call to fly over Hisui. And her last scene hints at another Sabi: one who, after seeing Regigigas, suddenly looks toward the researchers and their Pokédex.
