Giacomo: the ousted class rep who wrote Team Star's rules

1497 words | Reading time: 7 minutes

He was class president before he started skipping class. Giacomo leads the Segin Squad, Team Star's Dark-type crew, and his base is the first of the five that a Scarlet and Violet player takes down. Behind that role as the opening hurdle, though, the game tucks away the most institutional member of the organization: the one who recruited the other bosses, composed their theme music and inherited the job of keeping their rulebook.

A Class President So Strict He Lost His Own Post

Before the cap and the black coat, Giacomo is a model student in Mesagoza, so diligent and serious that his classmates elected him class president. The game doesn't invent any family drama for him — his profile leaves his family in the shadows — just an ordinary school conflict with no room for appeal.

What brings him down is exactly what got him elected. His excessive strictness about the rules costs him his office: applying the rules to the letter looked like a virtue at election time, and it becomes the reason he's ousted.

What follows looks like a mirror-image response. He crosses over to Team Star and skips the classes he had never once missed until then. Yet the character doesn't change his nature: his story shows him doing exactly what he did before, only in the service of a different institution.

The Segin Squad, the First Base to Fall

When the protagonist sets out on their adventure, Giacomo holds the post of Dark-type boss in Team Star's hierarchy and commands the Segin Squad. Of the organization's five bases, his is the first one the player dismantles.

The showdown follows a two-step protocol that says a lot about that hierarchy. The boss stays out of sight until the base's challenge has been won: you first have to beat the challenge his squad throws at you, and only then does the leader show up.

His entrance is straight out of a movie. He bursts onto the scene perched on a Revavroom whose hood has been rigged for battle — it's the machine, not the Trainer, that takes center frame, which suits a squad that defines itself by its base more than by its individual members.

Right-Hand Man to a Boss Gone Silent

Giacomo isn't just one boss among five. He's the one who recruited the other bosses, and the one who wrote Team Star's music — two acts of a founder, not of a mere section head.

The game describes him as the member of the entire organization who is closest to its Big Boss. That closeness takes the form of a very concrete delegation: the leader hands him control over the rules to come, leaving it to him to impose codes of conduct on everyone.

The detail that matters comes right after. Since that handover of responsibility, Giacomo hasn't heard a single word from the Big Boss. So the student ousted for being too strict ends up upholding a rulebook in the name of an authority that has gone silent.

Back in Uniform: The Makeup Exam

Giacomo returns in the Scarlet and Violet DLC, some time after the expedition into the Area Zero Underdepths. He comes to find the player in the Academy's entrance hall, accompanied by Eri, and the player takes a moment to recognize them: the two bosses have traded their Team outfits for the school uniform.

The reason for their visit is purely academic. Both of them are taking a makeup exam, and the other base bosses are struggling in some subjects. Careful not to worry Penny any further, they ask the player for private lessons, and the player agrees.

The scene closes on a quiet twist. Once the lessons are over, Giacomo thanks the player, then Penny bursts into the classroom unannounced. Uncomfortable, she immediately wants to slip away; her friends hold her back and confess everything. She understands, but blames them for keeping her out of it — she would have come to help them without a second thought.

His Look, and His Appearances Beyond the Adventure

You can read the character at a glance: short dark hair, a white cap, a long black coat left open. Underneath, his Mesagoza fall uniform is still clearly visible — the school outfit was never thrown away, only covered up.

The rest of his gear speaks to his job in the organization: a white-and-black wireless headset hanging around his neck, a computer held out at arm's length, a green backpack. The one who composed the Team's music and keeps its rulebook travels with the tools of his trade.

The DLC gives him a second outfit, a spring uniform that naturally goes with the makeup-exam episode. It's the only alternate outfit on record for him.

Outside the main games, he joined the mobile game on September 30, 2024, dressed as in the original game and paired with a Kingambit. On the trading card side, his first appearance dates back to the Paldea Evolved expansion, released in France on June 9, 2023, and he has appeared on other cards since.

In short

Giacomo holds a unique place in Team Star: he is both its first obstacle and its first architect. The player meets him as an opening stage, while the story credits him with recruiting the other bosses, composing their theme and keeping their rulebook. The student ousted for being too strict ended up writing the rules for an entire organization, in the name of a leader who no longer answers.
