The Female Face of a Game Where the Hero Is the Player
Pokémon Masters EX doesn't tell the story of a predetermined hero: it offers two shells for the same role. Bettie is the female playable character, Scottie her male counterpart — one or the other, depending on the box ticked at the start.
Even the name is just a default, since players can rename their avatar however they like. Customization goes beyond the label: four skin tones are available, then eight color options for both hair and eyes.
That leaves the reference look, the one from the official artwork: fair skin, bluish-black hair pulled up in a bun, gray eyes. The outfit is openly sporty — a blue, white and black cap, a black sports top under a wide-necked white T-shirt, blue short shorts, and blue, yellow and white sneakers with black soles. A red backpack with yellow straps completes the look, with a Poryphone attached to it.
Arriving on Pasio: Professor Bellis and Three-on-Three Battles
The game introduces her as a young Trainer who has just arrived on Pasio, an island that's anything but natural, since it was built from scratch. The very first person she meets is Professor Bellis, who serves as her gateway to how things work on the island.
What she discovers there is nothing like a classic League. Matches pit three sync pairs against three others, and sync moves, the decisive edge in these battles, remain out of reach without sync stones. Learning to play here first means learning these two rules.
The rest of her journey is a matter of encounters. Bettie teams up with Trainers from every region of the Pokémon world, all with the same goal on the horizon: the Pokémon Masters League, the competition the whole story builds toward.
Pikachu First, Then Sync Pairs From Everywhere
Her starting point, at least, never changes: her first partner is a Pikachu, the partner she enters the tournament with as a sync pair. It's the only Pokémon the game automatically assigns her.
From there, things open up much more widely. She can form other sync pairs, including with Torchic, Solgaleo, Regirock, Cobalion or Mesprit — species that nothing would normally bring together on the same team, and that say a lot about what makes Pasio special.
One last source completes the picture: Pokémon hatched from Eggs, including the three first-generation starter Pokémon. In other words, Bettie doesn't have a set team — she has a starting partner and an open-ended catalog of sync pairs, which is the very logic of a collection game.

An Animated Appearance Alongside Barry and Iris
Bettie steps out of the game for a short promotional film about Pokémon Masters. In it, she accompanies Barry and Iris on a journey across Pasio, which immediately places her alongside figures from two different regions.
The film ends in a stadium. There, the three travelers face the trio of Skyla, Flint and Acerola — three against three, exactly the format the game teaches Bettie as soon as she arrives on the island.

In short
Bettie isn't a character in the same sense as the Champions she rubs shoulders with: she's a role the player steps into, with an editable name, an adjustable face and a team built up one sync pair at a time. Still, the game gives her two fixed landmarks: a Pikachu and an island to conquer. Everything else in her story is written by the player.
