Who is Indeedee?
Listed as #876 in the National Pokédex, Indeedee is the "Emotion Pokémon" of the eighth generation, the Galar generation. It stands 90 centimeters tall and weighs 28 kilos, whether male or female.
It's a biped with a dark blue and white body, a white face, a round head and a pear-shaped body. Its French name, Wimessir, gives its job away: it's a twist on the French for "yes, my lord," " oui, messire ».
Its inspiration goes way back: Indeedee draws on the Lares, the household gods of Roman mythology who protected homes in exchange for gratitude, and on the brownie, the spirit of Scottish folklore that does the housework at night.

Two forms by gender, and not just in looks
Males have raised, curled horns, more white fur on their legs and two blue marks around the nose, like little glasses. The overall look suggests a butler.
Females have drooping horns, purple marks above the eyes, more white fur on the belly — it looks like a white dress or an apron — and a much more cheerful expression. This one is a housekeeper.
The real difference lies elsewhere. Both forms total 475 base stat points, but they aren't distributed the same way: the male leads in Attack, Special Attack and Speed, the female in HP, Defense and Special Defense.
Their learnsets differ too. The male gets Encore, After You, Power Split and Last Resort; the female gets Baton Pass, Follow Me, Guard Split and Healing Wish. Only she learns Light Screen, Reflect and Safeguard: she protects the team, he drives it forward.
Psychic and Normal type, with four Abilities
This type combination is remarkably low-key : fourteen of the eighteen types deal neutral damage to it. Only two hit it twice as hard, Bug and Dark, and none of its weaknesses is quadruple.
Two matchups are worth a closer look. Fighting, so dangerous against Normal, is held back by the Psychic type and drops to neutral damage. Ghost, super effective against Psychic, runs into Normal's immunity: it doesn't affect Indeedee at all. That leaves Psychic, which it takes at half damage.
When it comes to Abilities, the split follows gender once again. The male has Inner Focus, which prevents it from flinching and makes it immune to Intimidate; the female has Own Tempo, which makes her immune to confusion and, likewise, to Intimidate.
Both then share Synchronize — if an opponent burns, paralyzes or poisons them, they pass the status condition back — and then, as a Hidden Ability, Psychic Surge, which sets up Psychic Terrain as soon as it enters battle.
The terrain lasts five turns, eight with a Terrain Extender: grounded Pokémon can no longer be hit by priority moves. Yet Indeedee has no signature Ability : Psychic Surge was originally Tapu Lele's.

Evolution: none, no Mega, no Gigantamax
Let's be clear: Indeedee doesn't evolve and isn't the evolution of any Pokémon. Its evolutionary line has a single entry, and no level, stone, trade or friendship will ever change that.
No Mega Evolution either: the only Generation VIII Pokémon that can Mega Evolve is Falinks, using Falinksite. No regional form, and no Gigantamax — its only two variants remain the male and the female.
It's a very exclusive club: only Meowstic, Indeedee, Basculegion and Oinkologne have two separate data entries by gender, and Meowstic is the only one of the four whose two versions keep the same stats. Reason enough to collect both figures.
The servant that feeds on gratitude
The Pokémon Sword Pokédex sets up the character: "It can sense the emotions of others with its horns. The male stays by its Trainer's side to look after them, much like a valet." Pokémon Violet adds that it "can anticipate its Trainer's actions ».
The Pokémon Shield entry explains what fuels it: "Through its horns, it can pick up on the emotions of creatures around it. Positive emotions are the source of its strength." So it does everything it can to earn gratitude.
Females, for their part, "are excellent babysitters " and press their horns against those of others of their kind to exchange information. The Scarlet Pokédex adds that a female "hates conflict" and drives troublemakers away by throwing objects at them.
In the games, wild males are exclusive to Pokémon Sword and females to Pokémon Shield — except in the Max Lair. You'll find them in Glimwood Tangle and at the Lake of Outrage, and breeding gives you both in either version.
Finally, in the anime, both forms assist the Nurse Joys at Galar's Pokémon Centers. A duo of model servants, with everything it takes to end up as Pokémon plush on the corner of a desk.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
Does Indeedee evolve?
No. Indeedee has no evolution and isn't the evolution of any Pokémon: its evolutionary line has only one member. No level, stone, held item, trade or friendship condition will change its species. Its male and female forms aren't evolutions either, but two versions of the same species, determined by gender at birth. -
What's the difference between male and female Indeedee?
Everything except type, height, weight and base stat total. The male has raised, curled horns, the look of a butler, and better offensive stats: 65 Attack, 105 Special Attack and 95 Speed. The female has drooping horns, the look of a housekeeper, and better defensive stats: 70 HP, 65 Defense and 105 Special Defense. Both have a base stat total of 475. Their first Ability differs, and so do their learnsets: the male gets Encore, After You, Power Split and Last Resort, the female Baton Pass, Follow Me, Guard Split and Healing Wish. -
Does Indeedee have a signature Ability?
No, and that's the most common misconception about it. None of its four Abilities belongs to it alone. The male has Inner Focus, which prevents it from flinching and makes it immune to Intimidate; the female has Own Tempo, which makes her immune to confusion and Intimidate. Both share Synchronize, which passes a burn, paralysis or poison the opponent has just inflicted back to that opponent, and the Hidden Ability Psychic Surge, which sets up Psychic Terrain when it enters battle. Psychic Surge was Tapu Lele's signature Ability in Generation VII: Indeedee is the only other Pokémon to have it, which cost the Ability its signature status. Indeedee has no signature move either. -
What does the Psychic Terrain from Psychic Surge do?
It covers the battlefield for five turns, or eight if the Pokémon holds a Terrain Extender. While it lasts, grounded Pokémon can't be hit by priority moves, and their Psychic-type moves get a 30 percent power boost, down from 50 percent before Sword and Shield. The terrain also changes a few moves: Nature Power turns into Psychic, Camouflage changes the user's type to Psychic, the Psychic Seed raises its holder's Special Defense, and Expanding Force's power goes from 80 to 120. -
What are Indeedee's weaknesses?
Only two, and neither is quadruple: Bug and Dark deal double damage. It takes half damage from Psychic-type moves, and it's completely immune to Ghost, even though Ghost is super effective against Psychic, because the Normal type is immune to it. Also note that Fighting, so dangerous against Normal, is held back by the Psychic type and drops to neutral damage. The remaining fourteen types deal neutral damage. -
Where can you find Indeedee, and can you get both forms?
In Pokémon Sword and Shield, it appears in the wild in Glimwood Tangle and at the Lake of Outrage, as well as at Ballimere Lake in The Crown Tundra expansion. Wild males are exclusive to Pokémon Sword and females to Pokémon Shield, with one exception: the Max Lair offers both in both versions. And since Indeedee belongs to the Fairy Egg Group, breeding lets you get both forms whichever version you play.
In short
Two horns, two personalities, two stat sheets: Indeedee may well be the most discreet of butlers. It knows what you want before you do — and a simple thank you is all the pay it needs.
