A living menhir that spends its days following the sun across the sky. Stonjourner is Galar's Big Rock Pokémon: 2.5 meters, 520 kilos, a stone face set on two legs carved like monoliths. And once a year, it joins others of its kind to form a perfect circle.

Who is Stonjourner?

Listed as #874 in the National Pokédex, Stonjourner (called "Dolman" in French) belongs to the eighth generation, the generation of Pokémon Sword and Shield. Its French name, Dolman, reportedly blends the word dolmen with the English word man, and its silhouette recalls a trilithon, two upright pillars topped by a lintel.

Its face is a rectangular slab of stone, speckled with dark marks, where three white markings — two vertical, one horizontal — form a simple-looking expression. Two small stacked rocks serve as its hat, and its arms are made of three cube-shaped blocks that get bigger as they alternate between light and dark.

Its legs are by far its most imposing feature: two large menhirs whose bottom third is caked in brown mud. Each one bears the ᛝ "Ing" rune on its underside, and the right one is slightly cracked in the middle — a detail that fans of Pokémon figures spot at first glance.

Pure Rock: five weaknesses, four resistances, one unique Ability

Stonjourner is a pure Rock type, a defensive profile that cuts both ways. Five types hit it for double damage: Steel, Fighting, Water, Grass and Ground. None of them hits it for quadruple damage, but it has no immunity.

On the other hand, it takes half damage from Fire, Normal, Poison and Flying, giving it four resistances. The remaining nine types deal neutral damage. A very ordinary matchup chart, which its stats make far more extreme than it looks.

With 135 Defense and 125 Attack, Stonjourner can take hits and dish them out. But it collapses to 20 Special Attack and 20 Special Defense, for a total of 470 points : against special moves, it's a paper wall.

That 20 Special Defense is in fact the lowest value in the Pokédex, shared only with Caterpie, Weedle, Magikarp, Igglybuff, Carvanha and Deoxys in its Attack Forme. A built-in weakness that nothing makes up for.

Its only Ability, Power Spot, belongs to it alone: it boosts the power of its allies' moves by 30%. Watch out for the condition, which people often forget — it only works in Multi Battles and is completely useless in Single Battles. Stonjourner has no Hidden Ability.

Evolution: none, and a version exclusive

No ambiguity here: Stonjourner does not evolve and does not evolve from any Pokémon. Its evolution chain contains only itself, and it has just one form.

No Mega Evolution either, no regional form and no Gigantamax form: across the entire eighth generation, the only Mega that exists is Falinks's, triggered by the Falinksite. It has no signature move either — its real signature is its Ability.

Stonjourner is exclusive to Pokémon Sword. Its counterpart in Pokémon Shield is Eiscue, #875, and the two form an almost symmetrical pair: each has an Ability found on no other Pokémon, Power Spot on one side and Ice Face on the other. The split carried over to Scarlet and Violet, with Stonjourner staying on the Scarlet side.

In Sword, you'll find it on Route 10, at the Lake of Outrage in the Wild Area, then at the Giant's Foot and the Giant's Bed in the Crown Tundra. Gordie, the Circhester Gym Leader, uses one; in Scarlet, it roams the Asado Desert.

Stonehenge, the yearly circle and stones from far away

Its Pokémon Sword entry sums it up: "It stands motionless in the middle of the plains and spends its time watching the sun travel across the sky. Its footwork is phenomenal." It sometimes gets bursts of energy and walks for a long time, but it prefers to stay still.

Pokémon Shield describes the most puzzling phenomenon: "Every year on the same date, they appear out of nowhere to gather in a circle. It is one of their customs." No one knows why, and theories point to the position of the sun or to the Earth's energy.

Pokémon Scarlet adds a riddle worthy of an archaeologist: "The rocks that make up its body match those found in the soil of a region very far from where it lives today." Everything about Stonjourner is a nod to Stonehenge, whose stones also traveled a long way.

Then there's that famous footwork, which Pokémon Violet puts into numbers: "rocky legs weighing over 200 kg ": at level 66, Stonjourner learns Mega Kick, a kick with 120 power. All the more reason to love it as a Pokémon plush.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Does Stonjourner evolve?
No. Stonjourner does not evolve and does not evolve from any Pokémon: its evolution chain contains only itself and it has just one form. So there is no pre-evolution or evolution to look for, and no item or level will transform it.
  • What is Stonjourner's Ability?
Power Spot, and only Power Spot: Stonjourner has no second Ability and no Hidden Ability. It's a signature Ability that no other Pokémon has. It boosts the power of moves used by its allies by 30%, which means it needs allies: it only activates in Multi Battles and has absolutely no effect in Single Battles.
  • Does Stonjourner have a signature move?
No, despite a common misconception. No move is exclusive to Stonjourner. It does learn Gravity at level 18, Bulldoze and Stomping Tantrum by TM, and Mega Kick at level 66, but many other species share these moves. What's unique to it is its Ability, Power Spot.
  • What are Stonjourner's weaknesses?
As a pure Rock type, it takes double damage from Steel, Fighting, Water, Grass and Ground, for five weaknesses, and no type hits it for quadruple damage. It halves damage from Fire, Normal, Poison and Flying, for four resistances, and it has no immunities. The remaining nine types deal neutral damage. Its real weak spot is its 20 Special Defense.
  • Which version is Stonjourner found in?
Stonjourner is exclusive to Pokémon Sword, where it appears on Route 10, at the Lake of Outrage in the Wild Area and, with The Crown Tundra expansion, at the Giant's Foot and the Giant's Bed. In Pokémon Shield, Eiscue takes its place. In the ninth generation, the same logic applies: Stonjourner can be found in the Asado Desert in Pokémon Scarlet, and Eiscue in Pokémon Violet.
  • Does Stonjourner have a Mega Evolution or a Gigantamax form?
Neither, and no regional form either. Across the entire eighth generation, the only Mega Evolution that exists is Falinks's, triggered by the Falinksite. Stonjourner has one single appearance.

In short

Motionless for months, then suddenly on the move toward a meeting only it knows about: Stonjourner is probably the most enigmatic Pokémon in Galar. And it doesn't evolve — it's content to simply join the circle.
