A meringue topped with a cherry, and an extraordinary sense of smell. Slurpuff (Cupcanaille in French), the Meringue Pokémon of Kalos, can pick out the subtlest nuances of scent, which makes it a pastry chef's dream companion. Yet beneath the pastry hides a little white dog weighing barely 5 kilograms, and it's nothing like whipped cream.

Who is Slurpuff?
Listed as #685 in the National Pokédex, Slurpuff comes right after Swirlix and completes the line. Its official category is Meringue Pokémon, and it holds slot 132 in the Central Kalos Pokédex, then slot 211 in Galar.
It stands 80 centimeters tall on two legs, with a white body, pink eyes with white pupils and a tongue poking out of the corner of its mouth. On its head sits a mass of pink fur topped with a red sphere ; on each side, two pink balls serve as ears.
The recipe is easy to read. Poképédia sees a meringue in it — the red sphere playing the strawberry or cherry on top of the cake — along with a cupcake, known as a fairy cake in British English, which would explain its Fairy type.
Like its pre-evolution, it keeps traits of the bichon frisé. Bulbapedia adds the silhouette of a stylized clown — white face, pink ruff, light-colored wig — and notes that its head looks like a chef's hat.

A sense of smell that works like a compass
This is its true signature. The Pokémon X Pokédex describes it this way: its keen sense of smell lets it distinguish even the subtlest nuances of scent, which makes it an ideal companion for pastry chefs. Pokémon Legends: Z-A repeats the very same description word for word.
Pokémon Y goes further: its sense of smell is said to be millions of times keener than a human's, and it finds its way around by scent. The English version of the same entry is even more generous with the numbers and speaks of a hundred million times.
Pokémon Sword takes the talent into medicine: it can diagnose the health , mental and physical, of anyone just by smell, a gift that, according to the Pokédex, could have real-world applications.
A useful clarification against a common misconception: what surrounds it isn't cream, it's fur. Pokémon Shield says so clearly — the fur is so airy that Slurpuff is far lighter than it looks. Five kilograms for 80 centimeters isn't much.
Fairy type, Abilities and stats
Slurpuff is still a pure Fairy, with no second type. It's weak only to Poison and Steel, resists Fighting, Bug and Dark, and takes no damage from Dragon — the Fairy type's signature immunity.
Evolving boosts it across the board: 82 HP, 80 Attack, 86 Defense, 85 Special Attack, 75 Special Defense and 72 Speed, for 480 points in total versus 341 for Swirlix. No weak stat, with Defense on top : a perfectly balanced profile.
It keeps its line's Abilities. Sweet Veil, its only regular Ability, prevents the Pokémon and its allies from falling asleep — sleep and nothing else. In the sixth generation, it was even the signature Ability of Swirlix and Slurpuff, before other sweet-toothed Pokémon claimed it too.
Its hidden ability, Unburden, doubles its Speed as soon as it loses or consumes its held item. Hence a well-known strategy in the sixth and seventh generations, when Swirlix could get Belly Drum through breeding: sacrifice half its HP to max out its Attack, let the Sitrus Berry get eaten, and trigger Unburden.

Evolution: only one way in
Slurpuff evolves from Swirlix, and there's a single evolution method in the main series games: you have to trade a Swirlix to another Trainer while it's holding a Whipped Dream. No level, no stone, no friendship.
The line ends there: Slurpuff doesn't evolve any further. It has no Mega Evolution, no regional form and no Gigantamax form, and Pokémon Legends: Z-A hasn't changed that — it appears there as #099 in the Lumiose Pokédex, with no Mega Stone.
The Whipped Dream, meanwhile, still matters in Lumiose: you can earn it as the reward for a side mission with a deliciously fitting name, "Cupcanaille au café", as well as during the Z-A Royale. Its description hasn't changed since Pokémon X: a sweet cream as light as a cloud.
Its only alternate look comes when it's Shiny : its hair and feet turn from pink to brown, the cherry and collar darken, and the body shifts to dark yellow. It gives off a chocolate-dessert vibe, where the original went for plain meringue.
Trainer trivia
Its French name blends cupcake to canaille (French for "rascal"). The English name mixes "slurp" and "puff," while the Japanese ペロリーム (Peroream) pairs the sound of a lick with the word "cream."
In the anime, it's the partner of Miette, Serena's rival, whom she meets at a Poké Puff contest. Miette is a baker and a Pokémon Performer: the Pokédex describing Slurpuff as the ideal companion for pastry chefs couldn't have been more fitting.
It shows up again with Sawyer, one of the rivals of Ash Ketchum in Kalos, and later in the Horizons series. In the games, it shares its pre-evolution's fate: available in Pokémon X and Pokémon Sword, absent from Y and Shield.
Aromatisse, its exact mirror in Pokémon Y, follows the same pattern: a sixth-generation Fairy type, exclusive to the opposite version, obtained by trading it while it holds an item. Perfect for lining them up as Pokémon figures or as fluffy plush, like a pastry shop window.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
How do you get Slurpuff?
There's only one method in the main series games: trade a Swirlix to another Trainer while it's holding a Whipped Dream. No level, stone or friendship level triggers this evolution. In Pokémon GO, you need to make Swirlix your Buddy Pokémon, feed it 25 treats, then spend 50 Swirlix Candy. -
What are Slurpuff's Abilities?
It has a single regular Ability, Sweet Veil, which prevents the Pokémon and its allies from falling asleep. It only protects against sleep, not other status conditions, and it also rules out using Rest. Its hidden Ability is Unburden, which doubles its Speed as soon as it loses or consumes the item it was holding. -
What are Slurpuff's weaknesses?
As a pure Fairy type, it's only weak to Poison and Steel. It takes half damage from Fighting, Bug and Dark, and it's completely immune to Dragon, which deals it no damage at all. -
Does Slurpuff have a Mega Evolution?
No. Neither Slurpuff nor Swirlix has a Mega Evolution, a regional form or a Gigantamax form. Both do appear in the Lumiose Pokédex in Pokémon Legends: Z-A, as #099 and #098, but no Mega Stone is tied to them. -
Is Slurpuff's sense of smell really a hundred million times keener than ours?
It depends on the language. The French Pokédex entry in Pokémon Y says its sense of smell is millions of times more developed than a human's, while the English version claims a hundred million times. Either way, the game specifies that it finds its way around using the scents drifting around it. -
Is Slurpuff made of whipped cream?
No, and it's a common mix-up. The Pokémon Shield Pokédex clearly refers to its fur, so airy that it makes it very soft to the touch and much lighter than it looks. Its design is inspired by a meringue and a cupcake, but its body is still that of a furry Pokémon, not a pastry.
In short
Somewhere between a meringue and a bichon frisé, Slurpuff is one of Kalos's most mouthwatering designs — and a nose pastry chefs fight over. Now you just need a friend willing to trade Swirlix with you.
