Who Is Enamorus?

Listed as #905 in the National Pokédex, Enamorus is the "Love-Hate Pokémon" of the eighth generation. Yet she didn't arrive with Sword and Shield, but with Pokémon Legends: Arceus and the Hisui region.

She stands 1.6 meters tall and weighs 48 kilos: a female genie with a pink torso resting on a white cloud, four small red horns on her forehead, Cupid's-bow lips and white hair that forms a heart above her head.

Her long purple tail, shaped like a snake, coils around her torso and bears red hearts : with her, everything comes back to love.

The Forces of Nature Become Four

Ever since Pokémon Black and White, Tornadus, Thundurus to Landorus had formed the Forces of Nature, which players nicknamed the genie trio. Pokémon Legends: Arceus gave them a fourth member, and that's Enamorus.

The count then lines up neatly with the four animals of Chinese astrology that inspired the Therian Formes: the Vermilion Bird for Tornadus, the Azure Dragon for Thundurus, the White Tiger for Landorus and Genbu, the Black Tortoise, for Enamorus.

Each genie has a different number of horns: one for Thundurus, two for Tornadus, three for Landorus and four for Enamorus. Before she arrived, the Forces of Nature were the only group of Legendaries that was entirely male.

Stat-wise, she matches Tornadus and Thundurus with a 580 base stat total ; only Landorus, the leader, climbs to 600. Her number, 905, is the last eighth-generation entry in the National Pokédex.

Incarnate Forme, Therian Forme and the Reveal Glass

Like her three elders, Enamorus has two appearances. Her Incarnate Forme is the humanoid genie; her Therian Forme turns her into a creature very close to a tortoise, with her snake-like tail coiled on her back serving as a shell.

You switch from one to the other with the Reveal Glass, a rare item used outside of battle: you select it in the Bag, then choose the genie in your party. In Legends: Arceus, Cogita gives it to you as the reward for Request 94.

On one point, she differs from the other three: both her formes keep exactly the same height, 1.6 meters, whereas the Unova genies change size — Thundurus even goes from 1.5 to 3 meters. Her weight, for its part, stays at 48 kilos in both.

Her stat total doesn't budge either: 580 in both formes. It's the distribution that changes, and drastically — Speed drops from 106 to 46, Defense climbs from 70 to 110 and Special Defense from 80 to 100. No other genie sees such a swing.

Fairy and Flying Type, Abilities and Springtide Storm

Enamorus is the first species to debut with the Fairy and Flying combination. Five types hit her twice as hard: Poison, Rock, Steel, Electric and Ice, the weak spot shared by all four genies.

On the other hand, she halves damage from Grass and Dark, takes Fighting and Bug hits at a quarter of the damage, and benefits from two immunities : Ground, courtesy of her Flying type, and Dragon, courtesy of her Fairy type.

Her abilities depend on her forme. In Incarnate Forme, she has Cute Charm — a 30% chance of making an opponent of the opposite gender fall in love when it touches her with a contact move — and, as her hidden ability, Contrary, which reverses all stat changes.

In Therian Forme, a single ability and no hidden ability : Overcoat, which protects her from sandstorms and powder moves. Her signature move Springtide Storm, a Fairy-type move, belongs to her alone: 100 power, 80 accuracy, 5 PP.

Goddess of Spring, Implacable Wrath

Nicknamed "the goddess of spring," Enamorus disappears every winter, and no one knows where she goes. The Legends: Arceus Pokédex puts it plainly: "Its arrival from across the sea heralds the end of harsh winters. »

The same entry adds that it is the love she feels that "makes new life bud across the Hisui region." But that affection has a flip side: when someone neglects the life of another, her anger becomes "implacable".

She then takes on her Therian Forme — she "sheds her womanly appearance ," says the Pokédex — and reveals herself among the clouds to punish the culprit. You can encounter her at Scarlet Bog, in the Crimson Mirelands, once you've caught the other three genies.

Does she have a Mega Evolution? No : the only Mega from the eighth generation belongs to Falinks. No regional form either, and no Gigantamax: just two silhouettes, but two great excuses for Pokémon figures.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Does Enamorus evolve?
No. Enamorus has no evolution and is not the evolution of any Pokémon: her evolutionary chain has only one slot. Like the other Legendaries, she belongs to the Undiscovered Egg Group and therefore cannot breed. Her Incarnate and Therian Formes are not evolutions either, but two appearances she can switch between at will.
  • Why do people say the genie trio became a quartet?
Because Pokémon Legends: Arceus added a fourth member to the Forces of Nature. Tornadus, Thundurus and Landorus came from Pokémon Black and White; Enamorus joins them from Hisui. She is the only female in the group, and in fact the species has only female individuals: before her, the Forces of Nature were the only group of linked Legendaries to be entirely male. The quartet also completes the reference to the four animals of Chinese astrology, with Genbu, the Black Tortoise, going to Enamorus.
  • How do you switch from Incarnate Forme to Therian Forme?
With the Reveal Glass, a rare item used outside of battle: you select it in the Bag, then choose the genie in your party. The change works both ways and also applies to Tornadus, Thundurus and Landorus. In Pokémon Legends: Arceus, the Reveal Glass is the reward for Request 94 (titled "Les avatars de Hisui" in the French version), given by Cogita. In Scarlet and Violet, you can get it at the Porto Marinada auction.
  • What are Enamorus's abilities and signature move?
In Incarnate Forme, her ability is Cute Charm, which has a 30 percent chance of infatuating an opponent of the opposite gender that touches her with a contact move, and her hidden ability is Contrary, which reverses stat changes, boosts and drops alike. In Therian Forme, she has only one ability, Overcoat, and no hidden ability: it protects her from sandstorm damage and blocks powder moves. Her signature move is called Springtide Storm, and no other Pokémon can learn it.
  • What are Enamorus's weaknesses?
As a Fairy and Flying type, she takes double damage from five types: Poison, Rock, Steel, Electric and Ice, the last being the weakness shared by all four genies. None of her weaknesses is quadruple. She halves damage from Grass and Dark, takes only a quarter of the damage from Fighting and Bug, and is completely immune to two types: Ground, thanks to her Flying type, and Dragon, thanks to her Fairy type. The remaining seven types deal normal damage.
  • Does Enamorus have a Mega Evolution or a Gigantamax form?
No, neither. The list of Mega Pokémon, updated with Pokémon Legends: Z-A and its expansion, does not include any of the four genies: the only eighth-generation Pokémon that can Mega Evolve is Falinks, with Falinksite. Enamorus has no Gigantamax form or regional form either. Her only two official appearances remain her Incarnate Forme and her Therian Forme.

In short

One more genie, and the Unova group changes its very nature: Enamorus has turned an old trio into a finally complete quartet. And when she stops smiling, you'd better not be the one responsible.
